Dr. Melissa Porter
Chiropractor
Dr. Melissa Porter is a graduate of Logan University where she earned her Doctor of Chiropractic and Masters of Sports Science and Rehabilitation degrees. After graduation, she moved to Denver, Colorado and practiced there for 2 years. After much consideration, she decided to join her sister in Louisville to be closer to family. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of athletic and sports-related injuries using various techniques. She also enjoys treating pregnant women and their children. In her free time, she likes to be outside when the weather is nice and spend as much time as possible with family.
When treating pregnant patients, Dr. Melissa uses Webster Technique, a technique taught by the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) and focused on treating the pregnant female. The Webster Technique is a chiropractic analysis and gentle adjustment of the sacrum. As with all chiropractic adjustments, our intent is to improve the nervous system so the body can function better. As with all sacral adjustments, pelvis balance is improved. A balanced pelvis reduces undue tension in the attached muscles and ligaments. In pregnant women, if the pelvis is not balanced, the uneven pulling on these muscles and ligaments may be restricting the baby’s ability to get into the best possible position for birth.
